Interesting move for the cards. Not so much building for the future as maintaining the now

It is so weird to read this phrase: “if a package including Miller can net the Cards a starter who can help them overtake the Pirates in 2012, it seems like they gotta do it.” WHAT WORLD DO WE LIVE IN??

I would think, if they did decide to trade for Miller. They would have to receive a pitcher that is both fairly young and has had no health issues to this point.

Other things that can help you overcome the Pirates, just waiting for the sample size to catch up to the Pirates true performance. They won’t be in 1st place in September if they still have a .300 OBP.

…and that isn’t a rental. Miller is 21 yrs old and the Cardinals will have multiple rotation spots to fill next year (Lohse’s and Westbrook’s deals end and Carpenter may be done for good). I won’t mind...

No sir, I don’t like it. The kid is 21 and it’s his first year in AAA. I think they would deeply regret this trade. Then again, I said the same thing about Holliday for Brett Wallace….

Even thought Westbrook has done alright, I think I would rather them get a deal done with Lohse; that’s assuming the price is right

Funny how these things work out. I remember being agog that NY could be stupid enough to trade Kelly for O’Neil.

I agree. I’d hate to see it, unless they get a nearly as exciting MLB-ready pitcher in return and can have him around for multiple years. I also hated the Wallace trade, and the Haren trade, and the...

The ONLY way you do it is if you can get Hammels from Philly with the guarantee of a long term deal being signed. Pair he and Wainright with Garcia, Lynn, and possibly Martinez in a couple years, you...

I agree. Lohse if fine, keeps the ball down, doesn’t walk anyone…when he has been healthy, he’s been an effective pitcher for them.

The kid is only 21 and has been rushed into Triple A. The PCL is known as a hitters league It is hard on young pitchers. Too soon to give up on him.

To me, it is a strange thing to do/announce. It isn’t like the NL Central is in danger of having a dominant team take over any time soon. The team with the best combination of system and resources...

I feel like there is a log jam when it comes to our position players, and trading a top pitching prospect when our problem is pitching does not seem like a good move. Even though they are awesome...

You’re assuming Neal Huntington isn’t aware of this and planning moves of his own?

I agree with you 1389, however, the cards cannot be allowed to get a guy like Hamels because that would almost insure that the birds would dominate the central for a few years to come. I have heard...
